New Year, New Sales Goals – Featuring Tiffany Benson
Tips and advice on planning and achieving success in 2022
It’s that time of year again when everyone is pondering their New Year’s resolutions. Here at NextRoll, our Sales organization is loaded with motivated and ambitious women determined to crush their revenue goals and make each new year the best in their career. With over a decade in Sales under her belt, we asked Tiffany Benson, New Business Account Executive for Key Accounts for AdRoll, a division of NextRoll, to share her best advice on setting goals in 2022 and the best tools your company can provide to help you achieve success.
2021 has been a challenging year on so many levels. As a sales leader, what is your biggest takeaway from this year?
For the 12+ years that I’ve been in sales, every year has had its own challenges. The thing I took away from this year is something I learned in the past, which is to control the controllables. As a sales rep you quickly learn there are many things that can affect a deal. All you can do is control what you can control. The two things I make sure to remember is to stay positive and consistent. When I lay my head down at night, I want to feel like I did the best I could for AdRoll and myself that day.
How do you plan for meeting your sales goals in the new year?
As with every goal, I’ll look at what I personally set out to achieve since I usually want to exceed the goals set by the company. From there, I back into my goal. So, if I’m expected to bring in 50K a quarter, I’ll look at what I need to achieve each month to exceed the goal. Once I have that number, I’ll look at where my activity needs to be on a daily and monthly basis in order to achieve my monthly revenue goal.
Do you have any tried and true habits that help you achieve success in sales?
When it comes to sales, you may have to work late or odd hours if you want to capitalize on a customer who is engaged. So I’ve formed personal habits for the morning. I make sure to wake up a few hours before I start my workday to accomplish my health goals. This allows me to work late or at different hours. It helps me feel better about my life as a whole and puts me in a good place to focus on my professional world. I wake up at 6:30 every morning to get to the gym, meditate, and make a healthy breakfast all before 9am. It’s a great start to the day that allows me to focus on the things I need to be successful with work.
Do you have any New Year's resolutions for your career?
Yes. As much as my personality resists planning, it always serves me well. One of my new year's resolutions for my career is to plan my days better by setting aside prospecting time and making sure there are no distractions for the allotted time. I also plan to set aside time to check the previous day's emails. I want to add more structure to my day to see if it will help me accomplish more.
It’s my goal to be more methodical about my days and accomplish more. It’s also my goal to hit High Roller, an award for reps who bring in the most revenue for the year, in the AdRoll Business Unit in 2022, as well as to explore other teams, such as agency, to strengthen and make my skills more robust here.
In what ways does NextRoll set you up for success at the beginning of a new year?
I honestly can’t say enough good things about NextRoll. In the little time I’ve been here, the company has definitely done everything it can to exude the company culture. Focusing on diversity and inclusion, caring about employees, and providing work-life balance are just a few examples of why I love this organization.
Senior leadership is always listening to understand what can help their employees reach their personal and professional goals. If there is something they can do to optimize our workflows, it’s acted upon. There are so many ways an employee can gain visibility if they want it within the company.
There are also so many programs and additional training opportunities to help employees achieve their personal and professional goals. NextRoll is definitely a place where you’re given everything to succeed. It’s up to you to take advantage of these tools. As with anything in life, it’s what you make of it.
